Two American composers-Howard Hanson and Roy Harris-wrote numerous
Whitman-inspired works.  Just off the top of my head, Hanson wrote
his Songs from Drum Taps; Symphony No.  7, A Sea Symphony; The Mystic
Trumpeter; and Song of Democracy, just to name a few.

Harris wrote his Symphony for Voices; Three Songs of Democracy; and
Whitman Tryptych, among others.
