Although Philip Glass might well have written string quartets, this posting
concerns his illustrious predecessor of the late 19th century, Louis Glass.
I know of two cds devoted to Glass - one is of his symphonies, the other is
solo piano works. If I remember correctly, reviews of these two discs were
not complimentary; Glass was considered derivative and of low inspiration.
But for me, late 19th century string quartets are a delicacy. Can anyone
comment on the worth of the Glass string quartets in relation to his works
in other categories? Much obliged.
