Yes, there was and is "The Great Conductors" in both formats.  There is now
also "The Great Pianists" & "The Great Violinists".

With regard to the former, I found the sections on Barbirolli, Klemperer &
Reiner to be most entertaining & those on Szell, Walter & Furtwangler to be
most instructive.
