What's the difference between a sincere CM lover and an elitist? A few
comparisons follow: (S=sincere and E=elitist)

S) Never reads the audio reviews in the Gramophone
E) Actually knows where to *buy* the stuff they review

S) Loves opera but hasn't yet cracked open a libretto
E) Buys opera librettos separately (in cloth-bound volumes)

S) Can't spell Szymanowski
E) *Won't* spell Szymanowski

E) Plays "explosante-fixe" at dinner parties
S) Thinks "explosante-fixe" is French for Pepto-Bismol

S) Has speakers with 18" woofers
E) Really believes that dual 6" drivers sound as good

E) Has multiple recordings of respected works that aren't that good
S) Has multiple recordings of good works that aren't that respected

S) Thinks his CD player is stuck, but it was just a Bruckner Scherzo
E) Likes HIP Bruckner--*all* of the original repeats have been restored

E) Can pronounce "Turangalila"
S) Must turn off Messian out of biological necessity

E) Music evokes thoughts of new philosophical truisms
S) Music evokes thoughts of many instruments playing together

John Smyth--the next Anna Russell of CM
(I know, I know; some of you *knew* Anna Russell, and I'm no Anna Russell)
