My daughter has very small nipples (about the tip of a small hand's little finger) with
light to no areola color.

Since the external nipple is only part of the tissue that goes into the baby's mouth and
it is all the way back to the hard/soft palate division, the size of the nipple is not as
important as correctly latching onto the area behind the nipple ( about 1 1/2 inches
behind the nipple).

You want to focus on the latch rather than the size of the nipple..
and remind the mom to wait for the gape and firmly smush the baby to the breast
and hold him snugly to assure a good latch.
