The mother *can* breastfeed while using these medications.  You do *not* get Reyes syndrome
from salicylic acid, but from *acetyl*salicylic acid, which is not the same thing.  Reyes
syndrome happens to be quite rare, in any case.

I would encourage her *not* to live with ulcerative colitis, use the medication, at least the
steroid enema, but also the mesalamine if that helps her.
