progressively higher level graduate education of PH.D. or equivalent doctoral de
gree is
required; OR 1 year of specialized experience that is at least equivalent to the
 GS-9 level.
Specialized experience is experience which is in, or related to, the line of app
licant with
the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties
 of the
position. AREA INFORMATION: Winters are usually mild, and summers are hot and
humid. Government quarters are NOT available. One vocational-technical school, o
ne
junior college, and two state universities(Florida Agricultural and Mechanical U
niversity)
are located in Tallahassee. The Southeast Archeological Center is located on the
 campus
of Florida State University.
 
STATEMENT OF DUTIES: This position is located at the Southeast Archeological
Center. Primary duties involve planning, organizing, implementing, and supervisi
ng
preparation f cultural resource studies and plans for the Lower Mississippi Delt
a Region
Initiative. While the study area as defined in the initiative includes, Arkansas
, Illinois,
Missouri, Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee, the incumbent will
specifically develop and conduct a comprehensive and integrated program of resea
rch,
interpretation, and preservation of significant historic and archeological resou
rces with in
the states of Louisiana and Mississippi. Will participate in the design of studi
es and
research programs to identify and evaluate significant historic and prehistoric
resources
and will be responsible for the accuracy of data and reports. This will include
locating
and evaluating cultural sites; preparing National Register and National Landmark
 
nominations; performing test excavations; preparing scientific and management re
ports;
mapping, photography, and otherwise sites; assessing and recommending plans for
site
stabilization and preservation; inventorying significant sites; and acting as th
e contract
representative for projects that may be conducted through contracts or under coo
perative
agreements.
 
KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
(KASOCS):
1.  Knowledge of the history and prehistory of the Lower Mississippi Delta regio
n with
specific knowledge of Louisiana and Mississippi.
2.  A professional knowledge of archeology and anthropology including cultural h
istory
and theory equivalent to, at least, that resulting from completion of a Master's
 degree in
anthropology complemented by field work focused on managing archeological invent
ory
and evaluation surveys.
3.  Knowledge of legislation, regulations, executive orders, and Federal,Departm
ental,
and state policies related to the management of cultural resources.
4.  Basic knowledge in the use of computers and a working knowledge of archeolog
ical
data and information management systems.
5.  Skill in archeological programs/project management, and basic knowledge of
Archeological contracting and cooperative agreements.
6.  Skills in written and oral communication for professional and public audienc
es.
