Hi Tom,

Interesting question! We excavated what we interpreted to be a Sibley tent in the Confederate guard camp at the Florence Stockade in SC. I don't remember there being any specific artifacts associated with it. Rather, there was a large, circular ditch that we figured was to keep water out of the tent. I have attached a link to the report so you can have a look.

Good luck!

Subject: Artifact Assemblage for Civil War era Sibley Tent?

25 February 2016

Greetings,

I am looking for comparative artifact data for different types of Civil War encampment tents. I have good data for single excavated wooden huts and “dog” tents, but can’t seem to find any published artifact assemblages for Sibley tents.

Has anyone excavated a single Sibley tent from the Civil War era and have artifact data they’d be willing to share? Grey literature reports are especially welcomed, as I’ve been through the more widely-published works (e.g., Huts and History).

All help appreciated!

Cheers,
Tom Beaman
