Well, not at the museum, but for 11 years (yegads, I'm old) I've done a
monthly show on cable access - the studio where we film is 2 blocks
away. I can give you more detail if you like, but to sum up:

The good: A surprising number of people have seen it; for all the talk
sabout new media/social networking/etc, the boob tube still draws big.
The tv station people normally do talking head programs that often are
kind of dull to film, so doing science will make you popular. It's kind
of fun.

The bad: Extra work; scheduling can be a hassle; depending on how often
you film, keeping up a steady supply of new ideas/things to do can be
tough. You have to consider a different perspective that we normally
would with live audiences - not "what will our visitors/schoolkids/etc
like seeing or doing?" but "what will film well?" [Example: the
playdough circuits activity is a great hands-on one, but you need really
bright LED's to make it work on camera.] And in the case of my program -
there's the quality of the host.

If you're brave, you can check out episodes here:

The sound quality is a little hinky on a few episodes.

Hello,
I am interested in hearing if any of you currently, or even in the past,
have done a TV show with a local TV station from your museum. I am not
talking about weekly segments but full on 30 minute shows. We are
exploring this possibility and I would like to hear from anyone who has
experienced it first-hand.
I would like to see a show and hear about the good, the bad and the ugly
of the experience.

Thanks, Kathy
