Yes, I agree, the bike isn't the only option - and it is one that makes it accessible to only the most able-bodied.  If you use a bike, it is still good to have a hand crank as an option.

People are also sometimes amazed and amused by trying to put things in order of highest to lowest energy use, and highest to lowest energy producers (candy bar vs. tnt, etc).  Again, not a huge wow, but a nice easily adapted festival type activity.
