ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

We have a Test Kitchen program area, and we used to have liquid peanut butter as one of many possible flavors to add into a soda concoction. In addition to the peanut butter being a rather horrible soda flavor, we soon found the repeating situations for student allergies. We no longer carry the peanut butter flavor.

We do not have a formal allergen policy, but we don't create those situations if we can help it...like making all the visitors swim through melted peanut butter to get to the science center.

Does "nut free" open a can of worms? Do you now need latex free and other major allergens addressed too?

Subject: Nut Free Environment

Hello,
Our science centre is not a nut-free environment and we communicate with the public accordingly.

We are not planning on changing being 'non nut-free' however, we are reviewing
our policies, practices and communications to ensure we are providing the right
level of service and information to make all our visitors feel welcome.

It would be helpful in this review to understand how others approach this topic
with policies and public communications.  Any information shared on policies;
practices; communications; initiatives; etc would be much appreciated.

Many thanks
Catherine
