We have been working on a project focusing on the use of sunscreens and
sunblocks. We have two activities that show the effectiveness of sun screen
and sunblock.
One of our activities involves the use of Vernier Sensors and a computer.
The other activity involves the use of an $18 UV photodiode and a voltmeter.
Both activities generate data showing the relative effectiveness of no sun
protection, sunscreen and sunblock. We have also designed, but not yet
tested, an edible sun damage model using Jello, candy, frosting and whipped
cream. If you would like further information let me know and I can send you
what we have so far, as well as specifics on materials.

Does anyone have suggestions for demonstrations to illustrate the
efficacy of sunscreens? We are doing activities about safe summer living
this month. We cannot go outside (sun safety during our programs is not
a problem!)

Thanks in advance,

Lynn Cole
