The size and shape of the mouth cavity and the position of the tongue 
and lips are also responsible for the range of voice sounds. This is 
clearly shown by the so-called Jew's Harp: the thing you twang in the 
front of your mouth. The instrument emits exactly the same sound, yet 
the shape of the mouth changes it remarkably. OK for a demo, but not 
the kind of thing you can pass round for everybody to put inside their mouth...

A really nice participative demo might involve an electronic buzzer 
or tiny loudspeaker driven by a proprietary signal generator emitting 
a constant humming sound. Participants would position their mouth 
right in front of the speaker and experiment with the sounds they can 
make. This is sure be hilarious and to cause a lot of laughter.

Hygeine is an issue, so the speaker could be mounted in a (wipe-able) 
flat panel to prevent it actually entering the mouth.

Come to think of it, this might also make a really neat interactive exhibit.
