ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

Bergen Vitensenter AS was founded in the autumn of 2005, and is owned by the
City of Bergen, the University of Bergen, Bergen University College,
Hordaland County Council and Bergen Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The
company currently operates out of temporary premises in Nygårdsgt. 112, and
is now in the process of establishing a new science centre at Marineholmen.
A NOK 100 million contribution from Norsk Hydro ASA provides a financial
platform for this move. The new centre is expected to open during the first
quarter of 2007. Bergen Vitensenter AS aims to provide experiences that will
inspire and motivate visitors to take a greater interest in science and
technology.
 
 
GENERAL MANAGER 
Bergen Science Centre
 
We are now looking for someone to manage the new centre, and we would like
to fill the position in due time before the scheduled opening, enabling the
right candidate to participate in the development of the new centre and its
organisational structure. The future manager of the science centre must have
the ability to manage and develop both the commercial, technical and
organisational aspects of the operation within the framework provided. He or
she should take interest in science and technology, have good communication
skills and understand the associated educational challenges.
 
The work will involve:
·  Strategic planning and financial management including responsibility for
financial results
·  Generating support for goals and for means of achieving them
· Ensuring renewal, change and dynamics
· Establishing and developing relationships with partners in the private and
public sectors
 
Personal qualities:
·  Straightforward, energetic and inclusive style of management
·  Ability to develop, motivate and generate enthusiasm
·  Ability to work hard and get things done
·  Ability to cooperate well with others
 
Preferred qualifications:
·  Management experience, good understanding of commercial and financial
issues
·  Educated to university or university college level
· Familiar with public sector procedures
·  Good written and oral communication skills, English at working language
level
