Hello, all:

Two friends of mine, Paul Lehrman and Eric Singer, created an
incredible robotic performance of one of the infamous and rumoured
landmarks of 20th century music, Ballet Mechanique, composed by
George Antheil in the early part of the 20th century for 16 player
pianos, sirens, air plane propellers, and assorted percussion. The
story of the composition of the piece and its failure to launch as
originally conceived is recounted in a movie done by Paul. Among
other things, the music was not performable using the technology
available to Antheil at the time, but Paul and Eric collaborated to
create a robotic version (untouched by human hands)

In any case, Paul and Eric made it work through a huge amount of
effort and it was performed to great publicity and audiences as part
of the National Gallery of Art's Dada exhibition as well as other
performances in New England and San Francisco.

They are now looking for science center venues that might be
interested in hosting this experience, which really got rave reviews
in Washington and in other performances they have done. Without
going into details, it is not outrageously expensive or complex by
any means. Here is their web site, which includes press and a video
clip. http://www.antheil.org/NGA/

I have no commercial interest in this, and no other involvement than
my friendship with and respect for Paul and Eric, and my interest in
having this work continue to be seen.
