There are a couple special events going on in downtown San Jose just before
and during the ASTC conference. If you can fit these into your busy
schedule, check these out ...

As you walk between sessions and events , be sure to take a walk through the
Cesar de Chavez Park (between the Fairmont Hotel and The Tech) on Saturday,
September 18. The San Jose Museum of Art has brought 100 of the nation's
best ArtCars to San Jose for ArtCar Fest. For a preview, visit
http://www.artcarfest.com/.

If you arrive a bit early for the conference, on Friday, September 17, check
out the Grand Opening of the California Theatre. South First Area (SoFA)
businesses (right next to the Convention Center) plan to open their doors to
the public for hors dš oeuvres and refreshments. The theater will be open to
free docent-led tours starting at 4 p.m. Those who tour the theater can
pick up a "SoFA Passport" with a guide to the businesses where they can
sample the eclectic tastes, smells and sights of downtown San Josešs urban
entertainment district. The gatherings will last until 10 p.m. on Sept. 17.
The California Theatre is at 345 South First Street (a 1/2 block south of
San Carlos). A few photos and story about the restoration are at
http://www.metroactive.com/papers/metro/09.08.04/california-0437.html.

If you are looking for more to do either before or after the conference,
check out the comprehensive listings on Artsopolis at
http://www.artsopolis.com/.
