about 8 or 10 years back i had the opportunity to go to part of a seminar
that focused on science in classrooms.  one of the presenters showed video
from preliminary research in a 7th or 8th grade setting.

after the presentation, many of the participants were quite vocal in arguing
that what was shown in the video was anything but science.

the presenter was quick to point out he never claimed it was - his research
was aimed at trying to codify just what kind of learning this kind of
teaching was facilitating!  (i use the terms learning and teaching
advisedly)

let us not kill the messangers..............
