maybe funders would care about experience if that's what institutions tried
to sell them.  how many of us can make the cogent and passionate argument to
a funder?

does it have to do with our collective (emphasize collective) naive notions
about learning?  we all probably share the tradition of formal education.
even when most speak of informal, their primary experience is formal and
therefore formal educational notions often drive the model.

to a certain extent, it is our own collective gilded cage.
