I bought a DVD movie the other day. Although it doesn't involve
classical music, the film does highlight classic songs written by
Lennon and McCartney.

The name of the movie is "I am Sam" and stars Sean Penn as a retarded
adult who is raising his own daughter until the ever-interfering social
service network attempts to take her away from him. The movie itself
is a delight as Penn does a great job, his attorney Michelle Peiffer
puts in a stunning performance, and the film is loaded with a blend
of humor and poignancy.

The all-Beatles soundtrack, sung by various entertainers, is
probably the best aspect of the movie. The timing of the songs and
their emotional tie-in to the movie's plot couldn't be better.

Overall, it's the best movie I've seen in the last couple of years.
Some reviewers were critical of Penn's acting, considering him too
histrionic. I just think those reviewers have no idea how mentally
challenged individuals behave when they reach their emotional limits.

So, give yourself a treat and obtain the fim. I wouldn't recommend
buying the soundtrack, because it loses so much when divorced from the
plot.
