In answer to Robert Peters for me two Magic Moments in music are:-

(1) The mysterious opening bars of Beethoven's 9th symphony.

(2)Towards the end of the coda of Franz Lachner's 5th symphony where, in
the space of just a few bars, he pays tribute to Bach and Beethoven in
turn. This, and other delights, must have made it a worthy winner of the
prize offered by the Vienna Concerts Spirituels in 1835, despite the rude
things that Schumann had to say about it.
