Todd Girdler and Robert Douglass inquire about archaeological evidence
of boilers and boiler supports. They might find a report we did on the
engine mill house of the Reed Gold Mine in North Carolina of some
interest, since it includes some information concerning the boiler pit
and associated platform. The reference is:

Trinkley, Michael
1986 Archaeological Investigations at the Reed Gold Mine Engine
Mill House (31CA18**1), Reed Gold Mine State Historic Site, Carbarras
County, North Carolina. Research Series 6. Chicora Foundation, Inc.,
Columbia.

It should be available through several libraries using ILL.
