I appreciate all of the replies I've gotten.  I had already looked at a lot of
the canal data.  But, the project I'm working on is 18C and pre-canal.  Most of
the canal data is mid to late 19C.  Other than the data I mentioned from the
Severn (1700), does anyone know of other early comparative data (ground/water
costs)?
