A WEEKEND TO REMEMBER

As the final two days of the festival approaches here are some unmissable events and for those who thought they'd already missed out Best of the Fest gives you one final chance on Sunday 24th August.

Oliver Stone comes to EIFF
Oliver Stone will be in town on Saturday with the Document Gala of Comandante. This fascinating and controversial record of Stone's 30 hour meeting with the legendary Cuban Leader, Fidel Castro has been given an extra screening by popular demand. Last few tickets remaining...

ITS STARTED!

Edinburgh International Film Festival opens with a splash - not literally, thankfully.

The 57th EIFF started in some style on Wednesday night with the Opening Gala, Young Adam, David Mackenzie's excellent dramatisation of the novel by Scottish Beat poet, Alexander Trocchi.
The screening (and the party afterward) were attended by the director and actors Emily Mortimer, Peter Mullan and Therese Bradley - the film's main actor, Ewan McGregor, was unable to attend due to his commitments filming the latest Star Wars film in Australia. He did, however, send his mum in his stead, and recorded a message that

MYSTIC RIVER CANCELLED

The distributor of Mystic River, Warner Brothers, unfortunately had to pull the film from the Edinburgh International Film Festival. Due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts, they are unable to commit the film to any festivals. We˜ve decided not to compromise our programming and therefore have decided not to replace Mystic River with another film.

Finally we are here. The Rushes in your mailbox. I'm sorry it has taken a while, but we have been up against those technical gremlins recently, and noone told us not to feed them after midnight.

Today's exciting news is that Best of the Fest is now on sale. We have closing the Festival in a nutshell on Closing Sunday, and it's a perfect excuse to spend the whole day in the cinema.
