I think my note about community support groups was not communicated well- I
use LLL alot, but I feel strongly that prenatally, a support group doesn't
replace a breastfeeding class where the woman and her significant other go
to get the didactics. I meant to say that prenatally when a woman comes to
me to meet me, and interview me to be her pediatrician, I try to smother
her with breastfeeding support, and try to squeeze and eliminate all the
breastfeeding myths and scary stories out of her. Then I recommend a
breastfeeding class. Postpartum, I recommend LLL meetings (that is the only
community support in my area).-Anne Eglash MD
