For phone consults, communicate through TTY or online. In person it would be helpful to have a sign interpreter even if one of the couple is a good lipreader. They will probably have some sort of flashing light alarm that will activate when baby cries. I'm not sure if it can be more sensitive so as to pick up on pre-crying movements. I heard of one hearing impaired mom who taught herself to sleep with one hand on the baby so she could be aware of baby's moving at night.
