I recently was consulted by another LC friend concerning a mother complaining
of burning bilateral breast pain early pp.  Initially she was diagnosed with
breast infection with antibiotic TX for 7 days.  Mother had only minimal
improvement of symptoms and symptoms worsened at the end of the TX.  Pain was
greatest in the lower half of both breasts--where there is more nerve
innervation.  No outward signs of thrush and no swelling or inflammation of
breasts noticible.

She was referred to her physician after discussing many and numerous causes
with the LC--including nerve compression somewhere.  The physician decided it
was from nerve compression in the rib area somewhere and Ibuprofin was
prescribed.  Mother had been in a minor car accident prior to the problem
beginning when this may have occurred.  I don't know more detail, but this is
another cause for us to keep in mind.  Of course it may or may not relate to
your mother's situation.
