I have a mom with one nipple that is fissured/dimpled in the center. She has
been trying for the past week to heal the center....light hairdryer, shells
between feedings, lanolin. Baby doesn't nurse as well on that side and she
has not been compliant with position changes. She has been pumping that side
and exclusively nursing on the other. Should we expect a long recovery time
because that inner tissue doesn't stay adequately exposed to air? What have
others done with this situation.? We are becoming bosom buddies, although I
think that is what she wants and needs at this time. She wants a time frame
and I have reinforced proper positioning and skin care repeatedly. There is
no scabbing, or skin loss..but, that inner area does look tender.
