Hi all and happy new year!

As usual I've been off line due to school and am playing catch up over the
break.

I've been presented with a golden opportunity to speak to the OB docs at their
Jan meeting at our local hospital. It came out of a gripe session when a doc
basically complained that the Lamaze teachers were telling "his" patients
information that *he* didn't want them to hear (basically this time it was
about the problems with Demerol/meperidine in labor--thanks Dr. Hale for your
info at the ILCA conference!).
But what came out of the gripe session was the chance to present to the docs
the childbirth curriculum in a program complete with CME's (in hopes that more
will attend!
I was asked to do a *brief* (15-20 minutes) session on Breastfeeding!!

Now I need to come up with what is *most important* as I will only have their
ears for the 15 minutes. I thought about showing Righard's film on Self
attachement, and speaking about the impact of early latch-on to successful
nursing, as well as the problems being identified with the really long half
life of Meperidine (Demerol). I plan to incorporate the new AAP standards and
to give them handouts of this and the recent JAMA article that has motivated
several of my clients to reconsider early weaning!

Any suggestions on how to approach the docs, what else to be sure to cover,
and any bibliography articles will be most appreciated. (also what should I
wear?? my lab coat, a suit or what??)

Thanks for all the help. Wish me luck!
