My comments were based on observations, not anything researched. I
have followed a few cases where there were signs of a tongue tie,
but it was not clipped and mom went on to nurse comfortably and baby
gained well. I don't know if it was a matter of the frenulum
stretching, baby compensating effectively, mom with a high pain
threshold or an abundant milk supply in spite of ineffective milk
removal. Unfortunately, it only takes a tiny percentage like this
for some to ingore all the ones where it is a problem!
If tongue tie was something that could be definitively diagnosed
with some sort of measurable lab test, it would be easy. However, I
don't think there will ever be a truly concrete answer that fits
each couplet.
