Imitrex may not have side effects to the breastfeeding baby, but, make no mistake, it has side effects.

I lost my 59 year old mother last year very suddenly to cardiomyopathy and a pulmonary embolism. No family history of either. Her mother and three aunts all lived well into their 80's. Other than her migraines, she was the picture of health. Then, she began taking Imitrex, whose package insert states the increased risk of, you guessed it, cardiomyopathy and pulmonary embolism.

I am sorry to see this Dr. is blackmailing his/her patient. Where is the
evidence? Does this physician have Hale's Medications and Mother's Milk? Of
course not. Zomig and Imitrex are commonly used migraine meds, VERY
effective with virtually no side effects (compared to the old ergot
derivitives and barbituates) and are OK to use with breastfeeding. No need
to pump and dump. Imitrex (Sumatriptan) however is the preferred med.
Concerns if she is also taking an SSRI antidepressant, or MAOI (this is a
contraindication).

I think this doctor is old enough to be fired as her physician :^)

On an unrelated note, allow me to repost this guilt-inducing Zomig ad:
