Let me make it clear that I do know parents of exclusively breastfed babies who have survived colic by just loving their babies through it (and sometimes loving them through their own clenched teeth, when it was at its worst). But because the definition is so nebulous and there is so little understanding of, and acceptance for, what babies need to thrive, I think there are a good number of cases of unhappiness that could be fixed with relatively simple measures, leaving fewer colicky babies for the specialists to try to figure out.

I don't think I would have coped well with a baby who cried non-stop for hours on end, and I have infinite admiration for parents who manage to get through it with their babies and themselves intact.
