When a baby is slow to gain, in addition to looking at his intake, one should look to mother's caloric intake. Is she eating enough calories? Many moms will drink lots of fluid, and eat enough for energy, but this many months into lactation, forget about maintaining high caloric intake in their diet for the baby. Is the mom trying to lsoe weight? So busy she doesn't have time for appropriate meals, etc.? The Pediatricians I work for will often see infants who are nursing exclusively, then beginning solids at the point where they're becoming mobile (and using up many of their calories for energy) while having a growth spurt. Moms need to bolster their calories accordingly.
