A mother I am supporting has been experiencing severe burning pain on one side that is unrelated to attachment or positioning, continues after feeding, and is also felt when expressing. There are no symptoms of thrush for her nor her baby, and she has had a course of antibiotics (flucloxicillin 500mg for 7 days). Around 14 mths ago she was treated for ductal ectasia, and had to have surgery on that breast. There is not much info about duct ectasia, but burning pain is mentioned - however that should not be the case after it has been treated? Nancy Mohrbacher also refers to pain caused by internal scarring from previous surgery, which may be relevant here.
Her GP has referred her to the breast clinic, but any reflections or cases others have known of would be appreciated. Her baby is around 2 mths. Feeding has never been pain free on that side and has worsened.
