Kerry said: you help them form their goals

It is interesting to me that in most counseling sessions the phrase, I will
try, is not viewed as a commitment phrase. It is a cop-out phrase. The
counselor wants to hear, *I will do....* However, when asking first time
pregnant moms if they plan to breastfeed, they say: I am going to try. I
rarely hear, Of course I am! as their response.

That is why I think everyone the first time pregnant woman comes in contact
with who encourages, educates and supports breastfeeding is so important to
her positive mindset--and it is not reinforced often enough or early enough
in the pregnancy for her to really form her breastfeeding goals. Locally,
only LLL has multiple educational sessions on how to breastfeed. Outside of
LLL, there is usually a one-time window of opportunity to give the right
information in a single breastfeeding class tucked into a birthing class
session.

My friend, an educator who longer is an IBCLC, used to say: she was so tired
of all the attention being on the birth and not on the breastfeeding. It
was like looking forward to and planning the elaborate marriage ceremony and
nothing was left for the honeymoon--the beginning of the union.
