Before I was introduced to the world of breastfeeding, I was shown that
video while I was pregnant with my first baby - I have to say, I hated it,
too, and couldn't really explain why - looking back, I realize now that I
was terrified at the thought of trying to give birth without medications,
and this video was showing me what I would be missing out on. It seemed
utterly unattainable to me, and therefore a waste of time to watch. Later,
in a childbirth preparation class, the instructor managed to explain how a
drug free birth works, and how to survive it - she made it sound so do-able,
that I planned on trying it (ultimately had a c-section). I think I would
have been more open to that video if I'd already decided that I could give
birth drug-free.
