I've heard anecdotally from friends who have visited France, that the looks
of disgust they get for nursing in public are very disconcerting--and some
of these women are LLLLs.

*** Hmmm, not at all the "rule" actually. At least with a baby (with an
older infant, perhaps). We had a TV programm with "hiden camera" (hope you
understand) : a woman was openly breastfeeding on a bench in the street (not
discretely), and her "husband" (an actor) was calling to everybody who
passed in the street, saying "please, my wife is breastfeeding HERE ! tell
her to stop, she does not want to listen to me, she is shameless, it is
obscène". And ALL the persons responded to this man that he was crazy, that
he had to let his wife breastfeed where the baby needed, that the baby was a
happy one, and so on.
