Phyllis,

Dr Sears in his book on SIDS discusses the risks of overwrapping and also
those wedges that are used. Ever since reading his book some yrs ago I tell
prospective and new parents not to tightly swaddle for sleep nor use those
wedges which keep baby confined to her side where, according to Sears, in an
apneic or respiratory crisis might prevent movement to infant's back which
would allow for better lung expansion. When I see wedges in the home I
instruct parents not to use both wedges but to use only one near belly, if
baby won't sleep on back, so as Sears states baby then doesn't roll to tummy.
