In my observations, they do it because it does make them shut down & go to
sleep. To an RN in a nursery, this is good. She has her long list of things
to do, especially the hearing test wherein the baby must be sound asleep
for it to be successful. After the usual 3 hour waiting interval, baby must
be unwrapped and waked up because he's sleepy. Huh?

When baby is wrapped, staff can 'encourage' faster feeding even though all
of them will flatly deny force feeding by pressing the nipple against the
palate followed by finger-pressing under the chin to squeeze the nipple.

This leads me to the med chart notation of "nippled 30cc eagerly,
retained." To me, that translates to a mummy-wrapped, or burrito-wrapped
baby who has figured out how to swallow fast enough to keep up with the
flow without overflowing or fountaining back at the feeder. That, of
course, is a feeding problem which, if repeated, requires a workup, don'cha
know.
