A previous answed to Dave's question commented on the absorption of moistrure through the cappings, which is true, and your basement was humid in the summer, so I don't doubt that your capped honey could sour. Dave doesn't say what the conditions were where he stored his super or whether it was fully capped, and it was apparently stored for less than a year, so I suspect uncured honey. I guess the point of the whole discussion is that ; 1. High moisture content, regardless of cause, favors the activity of the yeast and eventual souring. 2. The bees know how to take care of honey better than we do. Leave it on if you can.
