The best bees come from local sources--if all other factors are equal.
I have had good results from sources far away and poor results from local
sources though.
 
Since bee production deals with the transportation of living organisms,
you are at the mercy of the postal service: and their service is
predictably erratic.  Great queens can become poor by sitting in the post
office, in the sun, for two days, while the postal people assure you that
shipping honey bees by mail is illegal.
 
Try posting a "who likes who" breeder thread in sci.agriculture.beekeeping
and summarize the results to this list.
