"AChE levels showed elevated levels among honeybees that collected corn pollen from treated fields."

This is the expected response to chronic neuron depolarization, and it supports the author's claim that neonics are chronically present in the bees. The bee up-regulates expression of acetylcholinesterase, because that is the normal biological feedback loop response when too much acetylcholine is in the synapse. Unfortunately, acetylcholinesterase does not degrade neonicotinoids, so it doesn't work. But the presence of elevated levels of AChE does indicate that there is a problem with the ACh channels being held open too long.
