Well said Kim!  Of course it is not absolutely necessary to demonstrate
qualification by earning a living with bees, but the hard reality of
beekeeping as a business quickly separates those who have mastered the
craft and business from those who don't

Respectfully, disagree. I have known plenty of beekeepers who showed a fat profit while being real hacks at beekeeping. At the same time, I know many excellent beekeepers who do it as a sideline. In fact, diversification in any field is one of the best ways to survive. Really, the whole thing is a bit like a beauty show. Who cares? To thine own self be true.
