Bill G covered it nicely. The reason why the strips alongside our Maine
roads are mowed so deep is so drivers will get a longer look at deer and
moose when they try to cross the road.

The post about the median strip brought back memories. A friend of mine was
tenderhearted toward varmints but when skunks became a bee problem he
trapped them and then was faced with what to do with them. If he released
them at a distance, they just became someone elses problem, so he decided
the humane thing to do was release them on the wooded median strip of a
local interstate.
