Good we do not have Small Hive Bettle (SHB) yet at Chile, but I was wondering if SHB should be catalogued as a Pest or rather just a hive Parasite. For me it is a pest considering that - based on what I have read somewhere - the bettle can complete its cycle not using the hives, for example in fruits, and by interfering with beekeeping "is detrimental to humans.." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pest_(organism) The distintion - if a pest or a parasite - is in my sense is critical for moving the Ag department at Chile. What do you think? Know? or have read? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parasite -- Juanse Barros J. APIZUR S.A.
