Greg: "It wasnt clear from your description if you use only a screened board or if you place it over a solid board (which I turn backwards so that bees dont fly btwn it abd the SBB, and also to be able to slide in a used file folder from the back to monitor mite drops..." I use the same setup, SBB over solid BB turned backward. The ones I bought from BetterBee and Rossman come with plastic inserts (the ones from Rossman are supposed to be SHB traps, but that's one problem I don't have. Do like the design of the tray better, though). No problem inserting and removing the trays, if the whole rig is taken apart and cleaned in the spring, when I break down all the hives for cleaning/maintenance. I like this setup, because there is the benefit of the SBB for drops and general hive observation (as I have posted before), and the solid bottom provides some insulation and protection from the wind of these northern winters. BTW, I also have slatted racks over the SBB, so there is an extra dead space below the bees for insulation. ################################### Bill Claremont, NH +43.35687 +43° 21’ 25” -72.3835 -72° 23’ 01” CWOP: D5065 Weather Underground: KNHCLARE3 HonetBeeNet: NH001 *********************************************** The BEE-L mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software.
