Hello All I am presently experimenting with a two queen hive system, where the bees will be common to the two hives so there is only one entrance (in the lower hive). The claim is made that since two queens are contributing brood it will end up as a massively strong colony. I placed a queenright hive on top of another queen right hive, separated by newspaper and a queen excluder. The problem is, that drones will be trapped in the top hive, and I will have to let them out every few days. However the unfortunate insects may still be killed in numbers as they get stuck in the queen excluder, and I wish to try to avoid this, and also the necessity to let them out. I seem to remember a device called a drone escape somewhere whereby the drones could be allowed to escape by a circuitous route a bit like a Canadian clearer board I think. Has anybody any info on this particular item as it would be very helpful to me now?. Thanks for any assistance Sincerely Tom Barrett 49 South Park Foxrock Dublin 18
