They worked for our son, who was allergic when in preschool, but went on to
work as a beekeeper with us for a while before moving on to other things.

The cost was so minimal that I don't recall, or was covered by Alberta
Health, since the condition could be considered life threatening. I was
pretty broke at the time, so my wife or I would remember if it cost anything
much at all.

I wrote my impressions (YMMV) some time back and posted them at
http://www.honeybeeworld.com/misc/stings.htm

In short, there is no way to know without being stung -- or tested by a
competent doctor. Most GPs are pretty much in the dark about bee stings,
and you may need to ask to see a specialist, or even two. Ask your
provincial beekeeping organisation and authorities for references. That is
the kind of essential info they should have current and handy at all times.
If they have no clue, contact the ABA at http://www.albertabeekeepers.org

I recommend that you ask around until you get the answers you need. Start
with your own doctor and move on from there if you aren't satisfied with the
answers you get. You have a right to get the treatment you need for your
safety. Good luck, and don't give up. Although there are no guarantees,
you stand a very good chance of putting the allergy behind you.
