Thanks for mentioning it. It didn't get as much notice as all the doom'n'gloom articles. The idea of colony losses is a bit of a conundrum for the bean counters. For example, many people engaged in the bee business sell off most of their bees every year and make a fat profit. 

The saying is, if you want to make money in the bee business, sell stuff to beekeepers. But seriously, Canadian beekeepers used to buy US packages, make a huge honey crop and deep six the bees in the fall. It's about the bottom line, not the number of hives. I don't count losses, I count how many hives I have in spring to make splits with.
