A very late response, but better late than never I suppose!

No Mike I have not used the tool that you described, although I believe
that some of my set of needles are of Chinese origin too. I made some
of my own as well from different steel, peened, ground, filed, bend and
polished them to suit my own requirements. I'll have a look to see how
the one that you mentioned differs in form and size....
