On the face of it, if a bee cannot negotiate her way back into a super via a
Canadian bee escape at say 9.00 am and can do so readily at say 9.00pm
having presumably made unsuccessful attempts in between times, surely it is
undeniable that what the bee can do at 9.00pm represents an 'improvement' on
what she could do at 9.00am. If it were a human being doing it we would
ascribe the term 'learning' to it. If a rat learns to work its way through a
maze do we not put that down to intelligence?. Why then can we not ascribe
intelligence to the bee?
